Developmental stuttering and Parkinson’s disease: the eVects of levodopa treatment
نویسندگان
چکیده
The eVects of dopamine on developmental stuttering was studied in a 44 year old man with developmental stuttering and Parkinson’s disease during three levodopa “on” periods and three “oV” periods. When compared with the “oV” periods, during the “on”’ periods he demonstrated an increase of speech dysfluencies. These findings lend support to the dopamine hypothesis of developmental stuttering. Objective(s): The aim of the present study was to evaluate antioxidant and methyl donor effects of betaine in cerebellum following levodopa and benserazide administration in rats. Materials and Methods: Sprague-Dawley male rats were treated with levodopa (LD), betaine (Bet), levodopa plus betaine (LD/Bet), levodopa plus benserazide (LD/Ben), levodopa plus betaine-benserazide (LD/Bet-Ben), and t...

متن کاملOutcome of unilateral pallidotomy in advanced Parkinson’s disease: cohort study of 32 patients
Objectives—In a randomised trial to study the eYcacy of unilateral pallidotomy in patients with advanced Parkinson’s disease, patients having pallidotomy within 1 month after randomisation were compared with patients having pallidotomy 6 months after the primary outcome assessment. Of the 37 patients enrolled 32 had a unilateral pallidotomy. The follow up study of these patients is presented to...
متن کاملDiabetes Increases the Incidence of Levodopa-Induced Dyskinesia in Parkinson’s Disease; A Case-Control Study
Background and Objective: Dyskinesia is a debilitating complication of Parkinsonchr('39')s disease (PD), which appears due to some known risk factors. The effect of diabetes and high plasma glucose on the manifestation of dyskinesia has been evaluated in just a few previous reports. The current study aimed to assess the mentioned correlation. Materials and Methods: In this case-control study, ...

Introduction: Betaine has been demonstrated to have methyl donor and antioxidant properties in our previous reports. Thus, the aim of the present study was to determine plasma homocysteine concentration and evaluate antioxidant activity of betaine following levodopa and benserazide administration, which routinely are used in treatment of Parkinson’s disease in liver of rats. Methods: Sprague–...
